Har ki Pauri means Footprints of the God. According to mythology it is believed that the footprints of Lord is situated at the Har ki Pauri. This holy Ghat was constructed by King Vikramaditya (1st century BC) in memory of his brother Bhrithari. Bhrithari came to Haridwar and meditated on the banks of the river Ganges. The most holy ghat in Har-ki-Pauri is Brahmakund. Brahma Kund, the place where the Amrit fell.

The ancient temple of Daksha Mahadev also famous as Daksheswara Mahadev Temple, is located in the Kankhal town. According to mythology, King Daksha Prajapati, father of Sati, Lord Shiva's first wife, performed a yagna, to which he intentionally did not invite Lord Shiva. When he arrived uninvited, he was insulted by the king Daksha, seeing which Sati felt infuriated and self-immolated her self in the yagna kund. That Yagnakund is known as Satikund. King Daksha was later killed by the Virabhadra, born out of Shiva's annoyance. Later the king was brought to life and given a goat's head by Shiva. Daksha Mahadev temple is a tribute to this legend.
